On-site safety regulations
At the OICE different levels of safety regulations are in effect to provide a safe work environment. The laboratory tract features a fully S2/S1 GenTech certified biochemical laboratory and four microscope labs that fall under the same safety category.
Every group planning to work under S1 or S2 conditions must bring a copy of the Z-Form which has been acknowledged by the authorities from the Regierung of Unterfranken prior to commencing work at the OICE. Additionally, you have to provide the case number (Aktenzeichen) connected to that approval. Further steps are not necessary, the OICE is only obligated to record the projects working under one of the GenTech safety regulations.
A proof that the scientist has attended the annual saftey instruction regarding GenTech, Biological Safety and Work with Harmful Chemicals at his department must also be provided beforehand.
Finally an on site introdcution (approx. 30 min) into the local safety issues will be given before first start. This introduction will familiarize the researchers, among other things, with:
- The room layout of the OICE, especially of the laboratory tract
- The hygenic requirements
- The location and handling of the emergency showers, eye-wash stations, first aid kits and fire extinguishers
- The location and safe handling of the gas cylinders
If you want to bring in chemicals or biological substances, we have to make sure that the are listed at our local database, which can be easily done.
If you have any further question, please do not hesitate to contact a meber of staff.
