IT services at the OICE
In order to simplify access to the different IT systems available at the OICE, every user will be presented with a central account that can presently be used for authentication at the following systems:
- https://gosa.oice.uni-erlangen.de <div indent>The central user database administration interface (GOSA). Use this to change your password, especially your initial password, centrally for all other systems. You can also change your personal information like your email address, name, etc. as well. The button to change the password is in the top right bar, next to “My Account”.</div>
- https://ppms.eu/oice-erlangen: <div indent>The booking system used to reserve time on the microscopes, tracking usage times and handling incident reports as well as invoicing. </div>
- http://www.oice.uni-erlangen.de: <div indent>The homepage of the Optical Imaging Center Erlangen lists all available microscopes and gives detailed information about the capabilities of the in-house devices, such as available excitation wavelenths, etc. </div>
- https://romulus.oice.uni-erlangen.de: <div indent>The OICE Open Microscopy Environment Remote Objects (OMERO) server acts as a central storage for all image data acquired with OICE devices. OMERO enables an easy way of sharing, annotating and exporting images to various formats. Limited analysis is also possible. The link will lead you to the web interface of the OMERO server, but there is also a client software for all major operating systems available at https://downloads.openmicroscopy.org/latest/omero5/ which is easier to use and more features-rich than the web interface. If you are planning to use any of the OMERO features provided by the OICE, such as DropBox upload, you have to login at least once before using these features, otherwise your OMERO account will not be automatically created and your DropBox, etc. will not work.</div>
- https://romulus.oice.uni-erlangen.de/wiki: <div indent>The OICE's wiki (where you are right now). In the future, this will also feature some basic manuals for the existing microscopes.</div>
- On-Site Computers: <div indent> Users can log in with their central account at the on-site workstations used to control the equipment. Most workstations are currently running Windows and users are provided with a domain login.</div>
- Storage: <div indent> The OICE provides a locally operated storage server to hold user images and data. The server is secured against hard disk failure with a RAID 6 array and is additionally backed up locally every three days.</div>
- Home & OMERO-Dropbox directories:<div indent>In order to use the storage server, users are provided with two network shares on the microscopy PCs: A home drive (usually H:) and a OMERO-Dropbox drive (usually X:). Every file saved on these network shares will reside on the backed up storage server. Additionally, the OMERO-Dropbox facility will automatically upload all recognized image files residing on the Dropbox-Share to the current user's “Orphaned Images” directory within the last used OMERO group. Alternatively, users can manually import their image files using either the OMERO-Web interface or the client software.</div>
Reminders
<div important> Initial passwords have to be changed within a period of one week. For security reasons, accounts with unchanged passwords will be deactivated after this limit. If your account has been deactivated, please contact Tristan.Nowak@fau.de </div>
<div important> The recommended method of uploading to the OMERO system is using the Dropbox facility, i.e. saving your files to the OMERO-Dropbox share (see above). In order to use the DropBox, you have to login at least once before saving files on the DropBox share!
Do not overwrite already saved files in your DropBox folder, this will trigger a reimport and will lead to duplicate images in you OMERO account. Instead, save the files only once or keep them outside the Dropbox folder until you are finished working! </div>
