First steps as a new user

In order to establish a safe and efficient research environment, the following steps are mandatory for new users at the OICE:

  1. Contact Benjamin Schmid(Benjamin.Schmid@fau.de) to request an account in the OICE's central user database, which is comprised of a variety of IT services, including this wiki.
  2. Change the password of your OICE account by going to https://gosa.oice.uni-erlangen.de and clicking on “Change password” on the right side of the top bar.
  3. Request an appointment with Ralf Palmisano or an authorized staff member to receive an introduction to the OICE premises, including its lab area and safety regulations. You have to sign a form stating that you received this introduction before you can start working at the OICE. This step maybe omitted for users never working with in-house OICE devices.
  4. If you plan to work on an external OICE device, contact the coordinator at the external facility to clarify the requirements at this site.
  5. The OICE has to advise all in-house work done using S1- or S2 organisms to the government of Unterfranken in Würzburg, so if you plan to bring samples to the OICE which apply under S1- or S2-regulations, you have to contact OICE staff prior to begin of work and you have to sign a form (Formblatt Z) with details about your organism.
  6. S1 and S2 work at the OICE premises requires proof that the future user is attending the annual safety instruction regarding biological, GenTech and laboratory safety regulations within his department. You have to provide OICE staff with this proof before you can start your work.
